So the campaign for this new year is Encourage. The definition of encourage is:
Give support, confidence, or hope (to someone).
1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
I chose the word “encourage” because 2016 was all about investing in people. I achieved my goal, I invested time and money for others but I realized something in the process. People take advantage of free help, but those encouraged to reach a goal that they set themselves, have more of an appreciation for what is given to them.
With it being the new year everyone is saying they want to workout more, or they want to eat better, be kinder, all which are great things. By February most are back to their normal ways. What am I getting at here? Encouraging someone to fulfill these goals that people set for themselves at the beginning of the year is what can keep them going. A lot of the times we accept, with them, the fact that they stopped pursuing a goal they set. “I work long hours so I can’t go to the gym anymore..” “I just can’t afford to eat healthy like this..” Very real and legitimate responses, but not legitimate reasons for waving the white flag when times get tough.
My goal for 2017 is to encourage at least 10 people to pursue, achieve, start, or set a goal of their choice! I encourage you to encourage someone to keep going when they sound like they are going to retreat. Perseverance pays off!
I will accomplish this goal, I’m just more interested in seeing what comes of it!
